In 2012, for the first time, I went to a school in the United States. I was speaking English horribly and writing terribly. With a desire of learning, I started my journey in West Chester University. I took five courses. In the beginning of the semester, I had to spend more than 7days a week to prepare classes and do homework. Even so, I still couldn't catch up with the professors and other students. Especially in the classes of History and Ethics, I completely didn't understand what people were talking about. I remember that the only word I said in the whole semester of History class was "water." I also remember that there was a pre-class test in every Ethics class and I mostly didn't understand what the questions meant. In order to get scores from the pre-class test, I always wrote down some words unrelated to the questions. Although that was a tough beginning, I insisted in attending every class and finishing every homework. Gradually, I found myself spent less time in doing homework and could have a short conversation with people in English. Eventually, I got three "A"s, one "B", and one "C".
It has been 4th year since I went to school first time in this country. I have persevered in practicing speaking and writing. Now I can express my idea either in speaking or in writing. Though I still make a lot of mistakes in vocabularies and grammars, I have made a significant progress.
Recalling these years, I never gave up learning new knowledge because I believe I can do better and be smarter through working hard. I believe that hard-working can make me successful either in school or in social life.
Suppose that I didn't trust myself and gave up from the first day of the school, there wouldn't be any change in my life. I would still struggle in speaking English fluently. This negative attitude would influence my life constantly until to the end of my life.
So I think I have a growth mindset. This mindset is the source from where I believe I can be smarter and more successful everyday by working hard.
