I just watched a video clip of democratic presidential debate about gun control. The moderator, Anderson Cooper, asked candidate Hilary Clinton if the Vermont senator, Bernie Sanders, was tough enough on guns. Clinton responded, “No, not at all.” She said America has 90 people die every day because of gun violence. She continued it is time for the American to stand against the National Rifle Association. Obviously, candidate Clinton advocates that the congress should legislate against selling guns to people. And she supports her opinion by using the death of 90 people. I personally disagree with her opinion that the government bans on selling guns.
Before we discuss about gun control, we should know what really put people die. People use guns, knives, blunt objects, and other methods to kill others or themselves. Among the people killed by guns, there are 51% of all firearm deaths are done by suicide. Even if they don’t have guns in hand, they will choose another weapon or another way to commit suicide. The gun control may decrease the possibility of people’ dying from shooting, but meanwhile it will increase the possibility of using other weapons to carry out crimes like knives. Then I guess government should ban on selling all kinds of knives. So government has to always bans on selling something. It sounds completely absurd.
Obviously gun is not the cause of crimes. What people should really focus on is that what triggers a rifle. It is us. We human use guns as a tool to kill people.
Assume that person A wants to kill person B and A doesn’t have a gun in hand. What A does have is brain. A will somehow think out a way to kill the B. We are so creative that we can use gunpowder to make a tunnel through a mountain, also can we use it to kill people. Everything has two sides. It is people who choose to use gun to put people die, not gun.
Given the congress successfully legislates a gun-control Act. By that time, only government has guns. People have no weapon. And the government wants to rule over the people instead of serving the people. Then what people can do is nothing but to obey because they don’t have guns to defend themselves. This is a practical issue. The best example is the North Korea. Although the government of North Korea is one of the richest organizations and the people in the North Korea live under poverty, they still have to show “gratitude” toward their leaders to avoid being executed. We can't put the whole nation into dangerous situation just because very few people die from guns.
Don't get me wrong. I'm still concerning about the very few people's safety. In order to minimize the injuries and death, we can set up an warehouse that must have nothing to do with the government. Then whoever have guns, they are required to reserve their guns into the warehouse. People are supervised by each other, not by government.
Again, I don't agree the government collect guns from the people.
