The video, "Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset", talks about the differences of people who either have growth mindset or fixed mindset. The people with growth mindset believe that their intelligences can be developed. They believe that they can get smarter when they put more efforts and take more challenges. So they like to challenge new things and ask questions if they don't understand. Unlike the growth mindset, the people with fixed mindset believe that they have fixed mindset. They believe their intelligences are fixed from the beginning, and there is nothing they can do to change the intelligences. So these people don't try hard to develop their intelligences. Meanwhile, in order to be look smart, they always hide themselves from challenges or give up when facing challenges. In terms of score in school, the student who has growth mindset gets higher score than the one who has fixed mindset.
If I had have seen this video before, I would have said I am the one with fixed mindset in school.(Revised) I was so afraid of making mistakes and always trying to protect myself from being judged stupid by both the teachers and classmates. Up to graduate from school and enter into society, I found that I am actually not smart at all. I realized the fear and protection keep me away from growing intellectually. I told myself, “You must change yourself. You must be humble and learn from others.” After these years of reconstructing myself, now I strongly believe I can change myself. In the classes, although English is not my mother tongue, I push myself to express my opinions and ask whatever I don't understand. Because being judged stupid is way better than being truly stupid.
In nonacademic environment, inwardly, I tell myself not to fear of making mistakes. Practically, I am still afraid of making mistakes. Especially in front of new faces, I try to be good instead of to be sincere.
In academic environments, I will insist on the way how I am doing now. I will always try to learn new knowledge even if it makes me stay up, like composition class. At the same time, I will positively ask questions which I don't understand.
In nonacademic environments, since, through this video, I know my mindset can be developed through trying new things, I will be more brave and sincere. So that I can develop intelligence by making mistakes and achieving success.
