My writing process I am glad I am not the only victim who suffers from distraction while writing. The famous writer, Carolyn Chute, reveals her personal typical day. On the day, her time is occupied by a lot of things unrelated to write, such as walking dogs, meeting visitors and friends, and deal with mails. She even does not have time to do dishwashing. She complains that the objective situation does not allow her to devote to creating fictions. Every coin has two sides. On this issue, Drake Baer has distinct viewpoint. He backs up his opinion with the 6 ways of how Hemingway could be a productive writer. He believes no matter how terrible the surrounding situation is, a writer should have an indomitable will to create literary works.
Being different from Carolyn Chute, to pick an appropriate word and to use grammar reasonably are the main distractions I face. English is my third language. Every language forms based on its culture. I do not know American culture very well. So I do not expect myself to write a fantastic novel. I aim to write a concisely and specifically paper that can deliver my idea clearly. Hence, I spend a lot of time picking right words and vocabularies.
Although English is my weak point, somehow the weak point is good point. As the driest sponge can absorb the most water, I believe I have significant room for loading new knowledge in writing as long as I try hard. In order to improve myself, I list 6 steps that help me in writing:
1. Always find a good place to read and write. For example, the group work room in DCCC library is a great place to study.
2. Read newspapers and short essays to understand the proper way of using words and grammar, also to learn new words and vocabularies.
3. Try to write papers regularly, like a paper with 500 words per week.
4. Have professor or someone from Learning Commence to review my paper and ask for suggestions to do better.
5. Prepare a notebook that records all the mistakes made in writing.
6. Review the mistakes regularly.
