For this blog, the topic I picked was “Do immigrants take jobs from American-Born workers?” I truly like this topic. I think this is one of my strongest blogs. As an immigrant, it was easy for me to pick a side and support it with specific own experiences.
In the introduction, I build up my credibility by saying I am a foreigner from China. So the readers know that I am not making up stories. Then I provided where the original paper came from---The Atlantic. By doing this telling the readers that this topic is a universally hot debate. Next I listed three persons' opinions on this topic with their backgrounds. So the readers know that I am not a selfish guy who only focuses on his own mind. I have an open mind. I am prepared to be exposed to all different kind of views. Then, I started support my opinion with my own stories---trying hard to find a job and studying hard to find a decent job. In this two stories, I was not only telling my own stuff, also I brought more foreigners to back up my arguments. In the end, I restated my thesis statement in different words.
I think my argument is quiet tough to be turned over. Because for most people, if you want to refute my argument, first of all, you need make sure you have credibility to pick this topic up.
This I believe
This blog was the blueprint of my first assignment. In this blog, although the words I picked and the details I gave out were not mature, I still successfully built up a structure which is the most important step in composition. Once the structure was constructed, what I did for A&M was just to add some introduction and conclusion in the first and last paragraph and tell more specific details to support the main idea.
Readers may more likely to read the accomplished A&M paper instead of reading this blueprint. For me, this one is much more important. It is one of the milestones in my composition career. From this one, I knew that whenever composing a paper, I want to set up a structure. Then what I need to do is to just put supportive materials on the structure so that it won't fall down.
Why I write
This was the first blog in this semester. Academically judging, this post is a piece of garbage. When I read it now, I find so many places need revisions. By the way, I am glad I can see where I need edit. I guess it means I made progress. Back to this blog, it is a precious garbage for me. The blog itself doesn't have any deep value to be dug. Before I commenced to write this one, I had no idea why composition courses are required to take. On the half way of writing, I discovered the reason of writing. Writing helps myself clear up my mind. It helps me to see the answers to questions step by step. Writing itself is almost meaningless. Its strength is to help people to convey or process useful information.
